 How to Use Social Media With Print Advertising


Traditional media uses fliers or newspaper ads to give customers a reason to return to your small business. Tap into someone’s social media experience by incorporating traditional and digital media. Announce promotions with fliers and use Foursquare for check-ins. Display ads in local newspapers can invite check-ins from Foursquare. Use landing pages on your Facebook business page to announce new events and bring in more foot traffic; then use printed fliers with your social media links to create a long-lasting bond between you and your customers.

Step 1

Design your print fliers and newspaper ads to include links to your social media accounts. Include custom social media URLs if you have them, and include a call to action for users to seek out your social media page.

Step 2

Use Facebook and Foursquare to carry out event promotions designed to bring in more foot traffic. Use check-in deals from Facebook, or the “mayor” feature on Foursquare, to bring value to regular customers that frequent your location, like offering discounts to users that check-in with Facebook places.

Step 3

Host your event fliers on your company blog. Provide users that may only know your online outfit the chance to get to know your physical location. Distribute this flier design through your social media channels as well.

Step 4

Incorporate user feedback from social media into your print advertising. Take positive quotes and place them in your newspaper ads like endorsements. Use display ads to announce special promotions that incorporate online actions, such as joining an email list or “Liking” a Facebook page.

Step 5

Put your social media user names on your business cards, and offer to Tweet at contacts when you meet them. Reach out to contacts in the social media space from your business account and let them know you’re not just a corporate logo.

Step 6

Use messaging that is consistent across all of your advertising media. Do not mix messages, and settle on a tag line that can be used for the event flier and your social media page. Add simple tag lines to your newspaper ads, or highlight savings across your display ads with links to an eCommerce store.
